Mission Statement

The mission of the Wayne County Emergency Communications Division is to provide full service emergency communications and non-emergency support in an efficient and professional manner; while being responsive to the public and the agencies we serve.

This mission is accomplished through a continued focus on excellence and professionalism in providing customer service to meet the urgent and immediate needs of our citizens and partner agencies.

Call 911 in an Emergency - 9-1-1 is an emergency number to obtain urgent assistance for any police, fire or medical emergency incident. An emergency is any serious medical problem (chest pain, seizure, bleeding), any type of fire (business, car, building), or any life-threatening situation (fights, person with weapons, vehicle accident with injuries, etc.). You can also use 9-1-1 to report crimes in progress, whether or not a life is threatened.

When to Call 9-1-1

  • To stop a crime
  • To report a fire
  • To save a life

Text to 9-1-1

Text-to-9-1-1 has been available in Wayne County since 2014, providing residents with an alternative way to reach emergency services when calling is not possible or safe. This service is especially valuable for individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, or speech-impaired, as well as in situations where speaking aloud could put the caller at risk, such as during a home invasion or domestic violence incident. While texting 9-1-1 can be a lifesaving option, callers should remember to provide their location and the nature of the emergency in their initial message, as texts do not automatically transmit location data like voice calls. Emergency responders will reply with instructions, but if texting is not necessary, calling remains the fastest way to get help. "B4U TXT 9-1-1, Voice is Best."

Non-Emergency Numbers for Our Partner Agencies:

Please do not call 9-1-1 for a non-emergency. Instead, dial the agency's listed 7-digit non-emergency telephone number. A non-emergency is one where life or property is not in danger such as theft of property or vandalism. You should also use the non-emergency telephone number for intoxicated persons who are not disorderly, or cars blocking the street or alley. Do not call 9-1-1 to report a power outage - call your electrical utility instead. 9-1-1 dispatchers cannot call a taxi for you - call the cab company directly. Do not call 9-1-1 to check the weather forecast or to find out why emergency sirens are sounding - get an All-Hazard Emergency Alert Radio for your home and business.
