The Wayne County Sheriff's Department Field Training Program (FTP) is on the job training with a Field Training Officer. Upon appointment to the UVSU, you are required to start the UVSU Academy. One component of the academy involves the FTP. You will need to complete at least Phase 1 of the FTP to satisfy the requirements for the academy. Prior to starting this program, you will need to review the Probationary Officer's Manual. It has forms that need to be filled out upon starting the FTO program. The Performance Categories will be included with that packet and they tell you specifically what you are being evaluated on.
Any time you work Field Training detail you should create a detail for it and categorize it as an FTO detail.
Scheduling
Patrolmen work 12 hour shifts (6a-6p and 6p-6a). Their schedule is Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Wednesday, and Thursday in a two week cycle. During that same cycle the opposite squad would be working the off days. For Example, in 2019 the schedule starting Monday November 18th is:
A Squad: Mon November 18th and Tue November 19th
B Squad: Wed November 20th and Thu November 21st
A Squad: Fri November 22nd through Sun November 24th
B Squad: Mon November 25th and Tue November 26th
A Squad: Wed November 27th and Thu November 28th
B Squad: Fri November 29th through Sun December 1st
Captain Doug Coffin is the Program Coordinator for the Field Training Process and it is probably best to contact him initially for scheduling.
